About the Speaker

Robin Blackburn is a Professor of Sociology at Essex University and currently a Visiting Distinguished Professor of Historical Studies at the New School University.  Long the editor of New Left Review, he has published two bold and highly acclaimed analyses of the rise and decline of slavery in the western hemisphere -- The Making of New World Slavery: From the Baroque to the Modern, 1492-1800 and The Overthrow of Colonial Slavery, 1776-1848.
